At almost 50 years old, I feel uniquely qualified to say…
I have tried just about every lip gloss on the market.
Like, truly.
If it was shiny, sticky, promising hydration, or living in the checkout aisle of a Sephora circa 2003, I probably owned it.
I’m a self-described red lipstick enthusiast, but my very close second?
A really good lip gloss.
In fact, if I were stranded on a deserted island (which honestly sounds kind of peaceful at this point), I think my two makeup items would be:
mascara + a great, long-lasting lip gloss.
Because there’s something about a glossy lip that just says,
I’m alive. I’m trying. We’re doing our best.
Lately, the one I keep reaching for is the Slick Salve from Topicals, a clean-ish lip gloss that actually lasts.
And here’s why:
It has that clingy, long-wear gloss texture,
but in a good way.
Like… it’s a little sticky, but not in the way that makes your hair get permanently glued to your face in a light breeze (we’ve all been there).
It actually reminds me of the old-school glosses from college,
the ones that stayed, but this feels like a more modern, slightly more thoughtful version.
It’s glossy, hydrating, and it hangs on just long enough to make it worth applying.
I currently have:
Mint
Acai
And they go with me everywhere.
Car. Purse. Bathroom counter. Random kitchen drop zone.
It’s one of those products that makes it easy to feel:
a little more feminine
a little more pulled together
without looking overly done
Which, at this stage of life, is kind of the whole goal.
Let’s be clear, I’m not out here trying to win a gold medal in ingredient perfection.
My approach is:
better, not obsessive.
Topicals, in my opinion, lands in that clean-ish lane:
thoughtful ingredients
barrier-supportive focus
modern formulation
but still performs like a real beauty product
Because here’s the thing,
if it’s “clean” but doesn’t work… I’m not using it.
And this works.
The Mint one has a little tingle (it’s mint, after all), so if you’re super sensitive, just something to be aware of.
For me, it feels fresh and kind of nice, like a tiny reset in the middle of the day
It’s about what it does in real life.
It’s the 10-second, no-mirror-needed,
“I just want to feel a little more like myself” move.
And those little moments?
They start to matter more than you think.
They stay with you.
And over time, they quietly build into something real.
If you try it, tell me what you think.
I’m always curious what actually makes it into someone else’s daily rotation!
Warmly,
Danielle
