The first fetter is the illusion of a separate self; the belief in the existence of an experiencer, a thinker and agent of our actions and decisions.

Is there a seer separate from the seen, an author of thoughts, a controller deciding our actions and choices?

Ultimately everything is just a bunch of quarks. So what is separation? Effectively it’s just a way to group those quarks and then label those groups. The illusion is believing that those groupings have some kind of inherent existence instead of being arbitrary and usually based on usefulness. At the end of the day every quark influences every other quark, which means that every group will influence every other group. So what does separation effectively mean?
