no. 250 | Secret Show

PSO set up at a section of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail, a cement two lane bike path located just northeast of town next to Davis/White Northeast Neighborhood park. Marked in chalk as stop #8, we were the last musicians along the path before tea lights led down a dirt trail that opened up to a large open area deep in the woods where the remaining five acts would perform.

This was the set up for the 4th iteration of “The Secret Show” put on by Litsa of Dear Diary Coffee and a team of musicians and volunteers. It was a magical night. Although we only heard Myla Lackey perform, by all accounts good times were had. Props to Phillip from The John Pauls, who also performed, for introducing us to Litsa.

This week’s music comes from the twelve-minute improvisation we did at the very beginning of the night. It was super dark on the trail. We would begin playing with no one there and then all the sudden there were 10-15 people standing or sitting and listening. When we finished a tune, they’d walk on, and we would begin again alone only to look up and find a fresh new bunch of folks stopping to listen on their way to “main stage.” We played for hours; so long my hands started to weirdly cramp!! Must remember to hydrate!!

Exhibit Closing Performance and Book + Cassette Release
Saturday, January 31, Galveston Artist Residency. at 5pm. PSO will play an intimate show in the atrium of this storied artist residency located just around the corner from the Galveston Art Center, where my show Slow Bell is currently on view.

The day of the performance will be the last day of my exhibit, which features visual works and a sound piece all made in Galveston. We will be celebrating with the release of a new 4-color Riso-printed catalog of the show printed by the inestimable Dan Schmahl from Rising Tide Projects. This (naturally) will be accompanied by a new cassette of the sound pieces created for the show.

Book Event + Performance
Saturday, February 28, 6-8 pm, with a live performance at 7pm, Do Right Hall. Brought to you by the fine folks that run WRONG GALLERY in Marfa, Texas. Book your trip. Jason Reed and I will driving out west to stretch out our 58-foot accordion-fold book, BOOM AND DUST, in the gorg space built in 1886 that was the first church of Marfa. It is an all adobe structure. It’s super cool and the ideal place to reprise the soundtrack that PSO recorded for the book live.
