Emilia Richeson-Valiente · Pony Sweat Newsletter

Solstice Greetings! ✨ Happy Pride! 💋⛓ Happy Cancer szn! 😭 Happy Birthdays to many of you Ponies, and also to Pony Sweat, who turned 12 this month! Dudes— do you remember who you were 12 years ago? That was a LONGass time ago!! So much has happened to us! So much life has been lived! I am truly humbled by this chunk of time that I’ve had the privilege to fgather folks and dance to beloved songs (lol I mistyped "father” but yes, that too, “I’ll be ur daddy”). Facilitating this fiercely noncompetitive dance aerobics container is my 2nd most favorite thing to do (keep reading to find out my first) and remains to be the reason why I STILL CAN’T QUIT PONY SWEAT! 😈 Shout out to Michella who has helped me keep it all going and navigate the many ups and downs since 2018! And to Isabel, who has contributed her Aries in Mercury powers since 2020, thank the goddess! Jaquita, my best dance-friend coming on to teach in 2018! And now we have Malia and Ashley and Ace on the team, helping the whole thing continue to go! Nobody makes anything happen alone! Deep appreciation to them all for keeping Pony Sweat going.

Over the years Ponies have told me how this practice has changed their lives, and I know it’s true because it changed mine too! I’ve learned so fucking much from this act of showing up to dance to music I love on a regular basis. It has revealed and healed and radicalized every part of my being, and continues to do so. I’m finding out more all the time!

I don’t move the same way I did 12 years ago, I don’t express myself the same, my life doesn’t look the same, so much has changed/evolved/unfolded/deepened. I can’t move as fast as I used to, which is totally fine; that limitation has made me a better dancer. I can’t teach as many classes as I used to, which is a gift that’s taught me how to slow down and take care of myself in different ways. I’ve found I don’t need to scream as much as I used to, which is very cool because the backlog of “getting it out” used to feel fucking endless! Turns out it wasn’t! And don’t get me wrong, I’m still pissed as hell! I just moved a lot of that old shit out the way. Thru Pony Sweat. It really does work if you work it!

Very very VERY grateful to all you Ponies who have found and connected with this practice over the years. Pony Sweat is a co-created experience and it doesn’t happen without all of you that participate. It is a true miracle of my life, and my inner-kid’s extremely specific dream come true. <3

I am really feeling the June mixtapes this year, Ponies! Both Jaquita and I have some Erasure to offer because you can never hear enough of them EVEN in the month of June ok! Andy Bell and I have the same gender and I always believed that’s why dancing to Erasure feels so good to me— but I look around at all of us dancing and I see you all feeling so good too! So… maybe Andy Bell is… all of us??? <3 <3 <3 I BELIEVE IN LOVE!

Just a reminder, we share our mixtapes through Letter Club which you get by being a paid subscriber to this newsletter OR by being an Across Time + Space subscriber. You also get a mixtape themed collage made by Michella every month, and June’s brought a single tear to mine eye it was so gorgeous. Get it Ponies!

5 days left of our Across Time + Space sale! 20% off one-year! Note: It auto-renews after a year and you can cancel that at any time! Thanks so much to you new subscribers! So happy to have you there.

Across Time + Space Yearly!

And also— SO fun to see new as well as seasoned Ponies at the June Pride Livestream extravaganza this month! Thank you for carving out time to connect across the spiral. <3

Michella’s pup Ube helping me teach Exercising + Listening 2 Records

I’m going on break next week and there won’t be any live Exercising + Listening 2 Records sessions for a couple weeks. Videos are in the AT+S library for you to revisit, if you want to/if you choose to!

SUMMER BUDDY IS BACK 2 for $22 sale is live today! Or 3 for $33! or 6 for $66 for that matter! Use code SUMMER-BUDDIES when signing up with 1 or more of your friends to Wednesday and Thursday classes!

We are in our slower season and reducing our weekly in-person schedule, so no Saturday class through July.

Pony Sweat is leading the warm-up at the Broad Museum’s Family Field Day Saturday night 06/27 and Sunday 6/28! They got so many cool acts and this is going to be a very rad and special event. We hope you come out for it! Starts at 1pm and we will be ponying at 1:40. Get Tickets! It’s FREE!

The programming at Family Field Day/Sports Rave supports the Yoko Ono solo exhibit currently up at the museum. Pony Jenn and her team installed SO MUCH incredible art, archival items and memorabilia, films, audio, and participatory art-making-pieces. It is a really beautiful and powerful exhibit (congrats to you and your team Jenn!), do NOT miss seeing it if you are here in L.A!
