July has been a month of trying to stay cool, and knitting zigzags. But some other things have happened too! Here’s our monthly roundup of things of interest:
Lydia has almost finished reading Blank Canvas, and has found it, so far, gripping. The main character is not entirely likeable, or really likeable at all, but the book handles complicated themes of lying, grief, and shame, in a direct and often tender way.
Lydia is also agonising over paint colours. Having moved, the new house is a very different kind of blank canvas and she is, for the first time ever, considering painting a room blue. Historically blue has been her least favourite colour, especially for interiors, but something seems to have changed. The problem now is finding the perfect blue. Something light, and not to grey-leaning. If anyone has suggestions please send them in! The plan is to pair it with deep terracotta and red woodwork and textiles.
Meghan was fascinated by this video from an Oxford University mathematician about knot theory and tying your shoes. It got her wondering how one would apply knot theory to knitting or crochet and what results or innovations might come about!
This week we had the photo shoot for our newest pattern release, a bandana that all our zigzag-y knitting has been for the past few weeks. We made no less than 8 (!) versions of this baby to show you all the ways it can work in different yarns. It’s such a versatile pattern.
We set up at gorgeous Whitlingham, part of the Broads National Park in Norfolk. (Fun fact: the Broads are bodies of water created by medieval peat excavation; the trenches created were filled with water when sea levels rose in the 14th century.) We worked with our longtime collaborator, Salsabil Morrison, and the photos are drop dead gorgeous… we can’t wait to show you! The clothes we styled with were mainly from Phaedra and Elsom (our studio pals).
