I love to save money on anything and am always looking for a good deal.

Let me tell you more about how I watch Saturday Night Live & Traitors at a very low monthly price.

Annual Cost of Peacock

Premium Plus - $169.99 per year ($14.17 per month)

Premium Monthly (w/ ads) - $10.99 per month ($131.88 per year)

I currently get Netflix with Ads and Hulu with Ads for free thanks to T-Mobile as my cell phone provider.

After going to a Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal in November I really wanted to binge watch old and new SNL episodes. I was originally going to sign up for Peacock for a month or two. $10.99 a month isn’t going to break the bank, that said, if you know me - I’m always looking for a deal.

Where did I start?

  • I checked my AmEx Offers and saw that I could get 2 months of Peacock with ads for free. This would give me a full credit on my statement right after making the purchase.

  • I saved $21.98 by spending about 5 minutes of research in my AmEx account

Break up with your subscription (or just pretend to)

  • We get attached to inanimate objects and feel guilty about breaking up with subscriptions. I’m pretty sure NBC will be okay without my $10.99 - right?

  • My two months was almost up in early January - sure, Traitors Season 4 is just beginning, but do I really need to get sucked into the subscription trap? The answer is NO!

What did I pay?

I was actually planning to cancel and resubscribe in a few weeks. However, when I went through the cancellation process - they still wanted me to stay. I got an offer of $2.99 a month plus tax for 6 months.

Over 8 months of having the Peacock streaming service I will pay $2.99 * 6 = $17.94 + tax

What is this valued at? $10.99 * 8 = $87.92 + tax

I saved $69.98 by spending about 15 minutes of my time.

My goal after the 6 month period ends

  • Take a break and consider going back 1 month at a time when fun shows are on like Traitors or during the SNL season.

  • Try to apply this process to other subscriptions. Have you done this for Peacock or any other subscriptions? What’s worked? What hasn’t

When it comes to budgeting and credit cards, try to get creative. You often don’t have to deprive yourself. If you can get creative - you might be able to save money and still keep your much-loved subscription.
