Jason William Karpf · Playing God Leads to Trouble

Your followers are already a marketing segment: people who chose to hear from you.

The next step is to segment within that audience.

  • Who opens?

  • Who replies?

  • Who comments?

  • Who shares?

  • Who raises a hand when you offer a small way to participate?

If a broad call for advance readers or launch-team members gets little response, don’t assume your audience doesn’t care. It may simply mean the ask came before you identified and cultivated the people most ready to engage.

Start smaller.

Give followers low-pressure opportunities to respond. Notice who does. Build relationships with those people. Invite them a little deeper.

You may discover that five enthusiastic advocates are more valuable than fifty names on a launch-team list. Call them the Mustard Seed Squad. (Matthew 13:31-32)

Don’t try to activate everyone. Find your hand-raisers.

That’s market segmentation with a human face—and we’ll talk about these principles in I Hate Marketing on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Zoom webinar is FREE. Reply “I’m in!” to receive the link.
