Benjamin Franklin famously said that it was only death and taxes of which we can be certain. Even though our death is certain, we tend to avoid thinking about it or talking about it. However, when you talk with death doulas the consistent message is: getting comfortable with the certainty of your death can help you live better now.
Come celebrate tax day (April 15) with a conversation about death with death doula, Lindsay Lenhart from Walking Homes Doulas.
“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”
-Benjamin Franklin
Birth doulas tend to be better known. They are the skilled, non-medical, professionals that provide presence and support to women giving birth and their families. Death doulas function in a similar role. Birth doulas help humans labor into life; death doulas help humans labor out of life. As Lindsay’s practice rightly names, death doulas can be part of the circle of support that help us “walk each other home.”
In honor of National Healthcare Decisions Day, we also will talk specifically with Lindsay about the choices one needs to make regarding life-saving treatments, including resuscitation (in the event of cardiac arrest), ventilation, nutrition, and hydration. These are key components of the advanced medical directives that everyone over the age of 18 should have.
Join us at the next community Playdate with Death™ to learn more about the work of death doulas and to have a rare opportunity to review your life-saving treatment decisions with a professional deathcare worker.
Unfortunately, you’re on your own to handle your taxes, but getting comfortable with the certainty of death is something we can do together.
Come play with us on April 15 from 6:30-7:30pmCST! RSVP below.
