Hi friends, it’s Aja! I’m back home after a whirlwind few weeks of travel. The last few days were especially whirlwind — we were supposed to have plenty of time to get to our friends’ wedding in Maine, but our flight home from Indonesia was delayed, there was a 90-minute wait at the rental car agency, and we took a wrong turn that added 30 miles. Our updated ETA: 10 minutes before the ceremony.
But, stressed and exhausted as Sam and I were, we didn’t get snippy with each other. We laughed every time the situation got worse (ok, I might’ve teared up once too). And when we arrived right on time — albeit a little sweatier and grimier than ideal — and proceeded to have an incredible night talking, dancing, and eating cake with our friends, the sleep deprivation and anxiety were worth it. (Aliza: Champs!!)
Hannah Einbinder is so freaking cool. I didn’t realize Hacks was her first show!
I’m very happy with the joggers I panic-bought from Target after realizing I hadn’t packed a single pair of long pants. They’re lightweight and comfortable, with a surplus of pockets.
Some of my favorite books from the last few weeks: Nerve Damage, a propulsive and thought-provoking book about a woman whose stalker has maybe returned; Alan Opts Out, which was a funny, lighthearted chaser; and Famous Men, a fresh take on the Me Too movement through the eyes of an aspiring writer. (Aliza: You have no idea how jealous your vacation reading has been making me…)
I love the new gold version of my favorite glasses.
How couples’ therapists fight with their partners (the comments were more interesting than the article itself, IMO) (gift link).
My dream home — the colors! The patterns! (Aliza: Can I move in with you, please?)
Wedding guest makeup you can apply in the car, lol: tinted moisturizer, highlighter, brow gel, and the drugstore mascara I always come back to.
Still my favorite flavor.
Grateful for Jia Tolentino’s essay calling out the disturbing proliferation and normalization of plastic surgery. She talks more about it here.
Sam and I have absolutely loved watching this hilarious yet deeply touching series together. Season two started streaming a few weeks ago.
Does anybody else need a new fall bag?! This collection is bringing me so much joy. I think I’m going to get the carry-on in gingham. (Aja: Fun!!)
I’m not kidding, when your dryer sheets smell this good it actually makes you want to do laundry.
Empty nest parents share their biggest regrets from the early days. I liked a lot of these, and especially: “It’s OK to be bored.”
Give me alllll the bath products that make a shower feel like a spa…
Two months in, and I can confidently say that this is the best mattress I’ve ever had. (They also offer a sleep quiz to find your perfect mattress.)
Are you subscribed to any snail mail clubs? As I (Aja) have talked about before, I’m trying to go more analog — and I love the idea of getting a zine or letter in the mail each month. Intrigued by Christine Tyler Hill’s Cloud Report, the Riso Club’s postcard membership, and Alex Steele’s Cake Mail Club…
