It’s almost Samhain and the veil is thinning…can you feel it?
We’re smack dab in the middle of Scorpio season, a time of year when themes like transformation, the spirit world, and death become culturally acceptable, thanks to Halloween and other well-known holidays like Día de los Muertos.
On the Wheel of the Year, however, late October and early November are marked by Samhain, the Witch’s New Year. This turn of the wheel starts a new annual cycle, representing a liminal space when the spirit world and the Earthly realm meet.
If you’re at all sensitive, you may have already noticed this potent energy shift: loud, unexplainable noises, cold spots in the room, and phantom smells may all be signs from spirits who want your attention.
If you’re interested in spirit communication, then I have good news for you — the thinning veil makes Samhain ideal for mystical practices, especially mediumship, channeling, and ancestral connection.
But a word of warning — make sure you don’t channel the wrong spirits. Let me explain…
Every year, when the veil was paper thin during Samhain, l practiced channeling messages from spirit. The first time I did it, I was amazed that it worked! It wasn’t scary at all and over time, I began to appreciate the sense of connection and awareness it brought into my life.
This work eventually led me to an ancestral healing class, where I learned how to properly channel my ancestors. Through these studies, I realized I had made one vital mistake — in my eagerness to connect to the spirit world, I had been forging connections to unhealed ancestral spirits.
These ancestral spirits, though loving and often well-meaning, were still holding onto pain and trauma from former lives….and their issues were holding me back as well.
Through my Samhain rituals, I had unknowingly set up a casting call for any spirit in my lineage who wanted my attention. In one such case, I began to feel an older female energy around me, especially when I woke up in the middle of the night. Despite my many wards, this woman’s energy was persistent, needling, and somewhat confusing.
After I set a gentle boundary with my ancestors, I immediately noticed a shift in my energy field. The very evening after I set this boundary, the female spirit backed off and I slept soundly through the night.
This marked a very crucial turning point for me. The moment I became more discerning in the ancestral healing process, the easier the work came. I began to receive more divine messages, more blessings, and more peace in my own life.
Which is why, during this potent time for spiritual connection, I’m doing things differently on Samhain. This year, I am choosing to work with my healed ancestors, and only my healed ancestors.
Yes, I’ll still put up photos of passed family members, friends, and familiars on my altar…but when I channel spirit on Samhain, it will be my healed ancestors that come forth.
These healed ancestors are old, ancient in fact, with so much wisdom to impart it’s almost astounding. I am beyond grateful to have found them and to have received their blessings, guidance, and protection. Quite honestly, I couldn’t do the work that I do without them.
