It was hard not to notice Charles Gardner’s new Ford Raptor pickup truck, parked as it was near the front door of Harmony Friends Meeting. Beside it, sat Ellis Hodge’s new-to-him Ford pickup. Absolute gems, both of them. After meeting for worship, the men of the meeting hurried outside to ogle them.
Charles Gardner’s truck cost ten times what Ellis Hodge’s cost, but had already depreciated $20,000 since it had been driven off the lot the week before. The consensus of the Quaker men was that Ellis’s truck was far superior. Easy to work on, classic lines, manufactured when trucks were trucks, built for work.
