Uly Grant had never been a violent man. Indeed, just the opposite. He was likable, helpful, and generally peaceable. So when Uly slapped Dale Hinshaw upside the head for showing a picture of his naked mother around town, people were surprised by Uly’s reaction, though secretly pleased by Dale’s comeuppance. Everyone who knew Dale had wanted to do the same, so it had been simply a matter of time before someone put him in his place.

Dale’s ears rang for two days. When he saw Dr. Neely at Kroger and asked him to look in his ear, hoping for a free consultation, Dr. Neely said, “Heard you had your bell rung by Uly Grant. Can’t say as I blame him. If it’s still ringing in another week, make an appointment.”
