This video was recorded before I introduced the SERVE mindset for PMOs. Watching it back now, it reminded me of the important connection between personal attitude and organizational mindset.
When I bring on a project manager, I don’t typically dwell on which university they attended. I typically look for experience, skills, and attitude.
Attitude gets underrated because it’s harder to put on a resume than a degree or a certification. But it’s the thing that actually matters: attitude is what lets someone adopt a mindset and adapt it as the situation changes. Skill tells you what a person can do, while attitude tells you whether they can actually hold a mindset like SERVE once things get difficult.
You can teach process but you can’t teach the willingness to think differently under pressure.
