My Ira Glass

I was cleaning out my shed and found this glass.

In 2011 I was on the team putting on shows at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, California. We were very pleased to book Ira Glass (This American Life) at the 1000-seat Veterans Memorial Auditorium. On the day of the show I got the job of doing the lights. Ira had a lighting que! He wanted to start the show in the dark so that the audience could only hear his voice. After his first monologue my que was, “Peter, please turn up the lights.” I did. He gave a wonderful talk. I’m a fan.

After the show he hung around for quite a while autographing books. I was helping clean up and spotted a wine glass in the green room. When he was done with signing books I asked him to sign my glass. There was a moment at which he wasn’t sure what I meant. Then he got it. “For Peter. I’m your Ira Glass.”

I love that!
