In 2023 I spent a month in New Orleans. I would get up early and write songs. My second week at the house in the Bywater I went looking for inspiration from Professor Longhair. Dr. John gave him a lot of credit. I played a few Professor Longhair tracks on Youtube and noticed they were all in the key of G. Good key for me. I love this version of Mean Old World with Snooks Eaglin on guitar.
Our friends Sean Feder & Rita Hosking had been visiting for a few days and were packing up to head home that day. It was a good day, to head on down the road.
By the time I got to recording the studio version it had become a regular part of my repertoire and I’d released a couple of live versions on Youtube. John Girton adds his signature guitar work on this version. Tim Bulkley is holding the beat on drums. Enjoy!
