Today I am looking
for grace
and I found it at the end
of the tips of my fingers
and in the feel of the earth
beneath my feet.
I am its willing hostage, this feeling
of being in love with everything
without boundary.
I don’t want to be who I was—
caught up in ravenous need
to be more, to understand, to control.
This is better, this falling in love with everything
as if I were in each moment walking
into a reunion. And then the rooted knowing:
I had never left—all the years
of separation was a story, a confusion
that pulled me away from this original oneness,
beyond knowing, without name,
and big enough to swallow questions and answers both
until there was nothing but silence,
and the rising and falling of waves
on the surface of the stream
passing over the witnessing
that no longer needs to understand.
