I know most people who see this post don’t need to read it and already know everything I am going to write in it. I’m doing it because I have actually run across quite a few people now who still believe that Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd. My guess is that, outside of conservative or right-leaning spaces, this is probably still the majority viewpoint. Instead of having to type out the same obvious points every time I encounter such a person, I’d prefer to just have a convenient permanent record I can link them to and leave it at that.
How did George Floyd die? The narrative that put Derek Chauvin in jail is that he strangled George Floyd to death by pressing his knee against George Floyd’s neck. The truth is that George Floyd almost certainly died due to swallowing fentanyl prior to his infamous interaction with Chauvin, and it is likely that Chauvin never restricted his airway at all (or did so only momentarily, at most).
But wait, didn’t we all see a 9 minute video of Derek Chauvin with his knee on George Floyd’s neck while George Floyd yelled out “I can’t breathe!”? Yes, and to believe this means that George Floyd was knee-strangled to death means you have the general knowledge and cognitive capabilities of a 5 year old. Try out Derek Chauvin’s kneeling posture on any random object that is slightly raised off the ground, placing one knee on the ground and the other on the random object.
You will immediately observe that you can very easily choose which knee to put your weight on, and if you shift all of your weight onto one knee, the amount of force that you are applying with the other is minimal. This should be common sense if you think about it for 2 seconds instead of crashing out. It’s also, I would guess, why this particular technique was not only used by Chauvin but specifically taught to police officers—they can either apply or relieve pressure almost instantly in response to how hard the subject is resisting.
The key takeaway here is that while Chauvin’s knee remained on Floyd’s neck, this does not mean that it was actually applying any significant amount of pressure for any significant length of time, if at all. This is why the autopsy performed by the Hennepin County Medical examiner—the same examiner who testified that Floyd’s death was a murder via asphyxiation—found no actual physical evidence consistent with strangulation, no damage to the structures of the neck or the airways or anything like that (inconsistent with strangulation, but not inconsistent with a death via fentanyl overdose). Look at the actual picture of the incident and imagine Chauvin pressing down hard enough to cut off Floyd’s breathing at the neck, for 9 minutes no less:
As you can see, Chauvin would have to bear down on him pretty damn hard because his head and his back are in the way and would obstruct his throat from being pressed flat against the pavement. How likely do you think it is that, if that is what happened, there would be no discernible damage to Floyd’s neck?
The second key takeaway is the length of the incident—9 minutes. It does not take 9 minutes to knock someone out if you are actually choking them. Likewise, if someone’s airway is actually cut off, they cannot actually yell out “I can’t breathe!”, for reasons that should be obvious. Now, one can imagine that Floyd actually did have trouble breathing, and again, undergoing respiratory distress while still having your airway open to yell out “I can’t breathe!” is more consistent with overdosing on opioids. Just look up how an opioid overdose kills you. You get three guesses and the first two don’t count.
The third obvious question any thinking person would ask about this situation is: Why would Derek Chauvin do this? He knew he was being filmed by hostile onlookers. There were three other officers present to witness everything that was going on. Why, under those circumstances, would he intentionally kill George Floyd, an act that would certainly ruin his life (as indeed it has been ruined, given that a critical mass of people believe it)? I legitimately don’t know of any plausible answer to this. Even serial killers take pains to commit their murders in secret—they don’t just do them in broad daylight while surrounded by people and being filmed.
Given all of the above, the clear, undeniable, obvious most plausible course of events is that Derek Chauvin never harmed George Floyd in any serious way at all, and certainly did not choke him to death; Floyd died due to the fentanyl he ingested and would have survived the interaction just fine if he hadn’t ingested it. There are multiple major holes with no plausible answers in the murder-by-knee-strangling narrative and zero in the fentanyl narrative. At the very least, any rational person would have to admit that there is room for reasonable doubt as to whether Chauvin murdered Floyd or not.
I almost feel stupid even tacking this last bit on, because (like all of this) it should be so obvious, but you might ask: Why is Derek Chauvin in jail? Why did he get convicted if he was innocent? Simple, moral hysteria. This incident triggered the biggest and most destructive wave of rioting in history; and the trial was held in Minneapolis, in the epicenter of that. Every juror on that panel knew they were being scrutinized under a microscope by a frenzied bloodthirsty mob, ready to rip their lives apart if they dared to rule the wrong way. Given that reality, they can hardly be blamed for passing down the conviction that they did. Derek Chauvin had to be sacrificed on the altar of progressive race communism, or there would be hell to pay.

Yes, the medical examiner declared that despite his autopsy finding zero actual evidence of strangulation in the autopsy. He faced the same pressures as the jury—more pressure in fact, as there was not even an attempt to conceal his identity. This is the only piece of evidence that I have ever seen cited to support the murder narrative, and it isn’t actual evidence, it’s merely the assertion (again, without evidence) of a person who may as well have had a gun aimed at his head.

Chauvin plead guilty at the federal level to avoid the death penalty and so that he could serve his sentences concurrently and have a shot at seeing the outside world again some day. You can Google this and Google will instantly tell you.
