“The Democrats need to…” Please stop. Do you really think that the people raised in entrenched political families, who have been politicians most of their adult lives, surrounded by legions of staffers, do not actually know what tools are available to them? Do you think they don’t know the real problem? Do you think they don’t know the solutions? They know. They don’t care.
The 85% of the Democratic party that takes corporate PAC money has proven time and again that they are willing to sell out the American people and even commit genocide in order to keep their money-power. The world discovered the Jewish Holocaust and said, “never again,” and then the Democrats looked at the Palestinian Holocaust and said, “maybe again.” They know what they are doing, they know that there is no way to excuse the many war crimes of Israel as “self defense.” They don’t care.
Cory Booker told us to go get into “good trouble,” and then he turned around and continued to support bombs for Israel after they broke the latest ceasefire to murder hundreds more children. Pritzker, likewise, talks a good game, but he still supports Israel unconditionally. My peace and prosperity will not be bought with the blood of the innocent. If America’s can, then they deserve Trump and fascism. In fact, the refusal to denounce Israel is a big part of what lead to the greater evil taking power.
To be clear, the Democrats could band together and stand strong against AIPAC. They could pass anti-corruption laws through the states to begin removing big money from politics all together. They don’t need the Republicans help, they could do this on their own. They don’t want to. We keep letting them sit idle, then we wonder why half the country won’t vote. Here is a non-exhaustive list of serious reform the Democratic party as a whole has refused to champion for 50 years:
Policing & prison.
Education.
Gun safety.
Universal Healthcare.
Union protections.
Monopoly restrictions for essential goods.
Affordable housing.
Raising the minimum wage.
Media disinformation.
Climate change (no, a couple of wind turbines is not real action).
Yet, I would give up all of that for one single issue; election reform. With big money and voter suppression preventing us from electing meaningful representation, we can’t get anything else done. All of the issues we face continue because big money interests drive politics and capitalism will always flow to the greatest profit—like water flows down hill. Doesn’t matter if it’s self-destructive. Doesn’t matter if it destroys the entire planet; capitalism doesn’t think, it just is. If we want a better system, we have to create that.
The DNC is currently fighting David Hogg to prevent him from supporting progressive Democratic candidates in primaries. There was an astroturfing campaign over the weekend to demonize Hogg and to paint Booker as the new poster child of the Democrats. If you don’t see a big problem with those two things, then you’re part of the problem. Just like appeasement doesn’t work for tyrants, it doesn’t work for political parties bought out by corporate money. No matter how many groups we pay to beg our politicians to do their jobs, we will never outspend the billionaires.
If you didn’t click the link on Palestine, it shows that Israeli soldiers have been documenting their own war crimes. That’s how confident they are that they can get away with it. Does it really surprise you then, that the same people who are bank rolling that are letting Trump get away with starting up the American Holocaust? He just set the table for martial law through his latest EO, yet Democrats continue to do performative stunts and otherwise sit on their hands. Booker and others just helped the GOP nominate Trump’s ambassador to China. I’m sure that will turn out well.
We have to stop making excuses for them. We have to stop making excuses for ourselves. We have to get organized, mobilized, and dedicate ourselves to the cause. Go to protests and meet people, then set up a community library meetup. Check your states laws on voter-initiated ballot measures to see how that needs to get started. Check the laws on recall elections and begin posting to social media about it now; about how we can remove corrupt lawmakers ourselves. Build momentum. Join groups who are already doing things, like Common Cause, People Power United, More Perfect Union, and Indivisible.
Find your people; take action. We cannot continue to sit on our hands while the people suffer and the world dies. We need to end corporate tyranny and fascism both. We need restoration and adaptation measures to survive climate collapse and begin to rebuild our planet. The Earth isn’t even on life support, we continue to kill it worse every year. But don’t let the enormity of what we’re up against stop you. Each individual is a drop of water in the tsunami of change. We will wash over the oppressor and the systems of destruction they have built. We will cleanse the corruption and open the land to new life. But only if we move, only if we rise up.
