Hola friends,
This weekend is Mother’s Day, and I’ve been thinking about all the kinds of moms there are. The moms who are here with us, the moms who live on in memory, and the moms who are still becoming in different ways and forms. Holding space for all of that feels important.
Today I wanted to share a few small poems I wrote in that spirit.
Gifted spark of hope
You wrapped us beneath your wings
We flew toward our dreams
M – My hero
O – One of a kind
M – My forever friend
Mom, may you hum the sweet tune of Las Mañanitas with the birds.
May you marvel at the mariachis serenading you with their heartfelt song.
May the morning sun kiss your cheeks as the notes dance in the air.
May you smile, laugh, and cry, and let the wave of emotions wash over you.
May the words nestle deep in your heart even when the song is over.
May you know how much we love you and that today we celebrate you, our dear, beautiful mother.
Happy Mother’s Day. Feliz Día de las Madres.
I also got a HUGE card for my mom this year, and I can’t wait to give it to her. There’s something so special about those little and not-so-little ways we get to say “I love you” out loud.
