Michael Ludgate · Michael Ludgate's News from The Canaan Institute

Wow - it’s Friday!

A quick note for the contra dancers - the Cornell Contra Dance Club (CCDC) was unable to secure the originally planned venue. The dance has been moved to the indoor atrium in Physical Sciences Building on Cornell campus. Here is the scoop:

Contra Dance with O’Shanigans! Casey Carr is calling – come join us Saturday, August 22nd 6-8pm, at Physical Sciences Building Atrium, 245 Feeney Way, Ithaca, NY, for live music by the O’Shanigans & calling by Casey Carr. Donations appreciated.

CCDC: “This dance is designed as a welcome back to campus event, at which we’ll hopefully attract new students! Reach out with questions, and pre-register here to let us know you’re coming!”

CONTRA LINEUP - 6 Musicians for this event (unplugged!): Margaret Ball-Lumumba (fiddle), Phil Robinson (guitar), Michael Ludgate (mandolin, feet), Katrina Mackey (flute, fiddle). Guest musicians Sophie Orzechowski MacRae (fiddle) and Phil Greenfield (bass). www.oshanigans.org

FINNISH TUNES - Sunday, Metku will be at the Ithaca Farmers Market from 11am-2pm, weather permitting. www.metku.org

COOL SMALL VENUE - Meanwhile, tonight in Lansing - you can check out Tom, Tim, Ariana, Rick, and Dave as String Theory and get the chance to see Triphammer Arts new barn stage in action! August 21, 2026 at 7:00pm 2622 N. Triphammer Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 Tickets available at the gate – $20

PHOTOS - This morning was cool and misty-foggy here in the hills. These photos are not from this morning, because it takes me a couple days to “develop the film” so-to-speak. Here are a few from previous, similar cool country mornings.
