Pediatric Moonshot October 2025 Update

Let’s start with a stunning quote: as you all know, commercial or research funding for pediatric medicine is a small fraction of the total, and has just gotten smaller.

Two weeks ago, we launched a $50M Pediatric Moonshot capital campaign at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. The moderator, who is the executive director of Scientific American, posted on LinkedIn: “This may be the greatest innovation in the history of medicine.”

For our campaign, we identified 102 private, community, and corporate foundations that have demonstrated interest in funding pediatric healthcare. We’ve already begun our outreach and received some positive feedback using a 2-page proposal with four additional appendices.

In this proposal, we outline the specific objectives for continuing to build our globally distributed privacy-preserving AI supercomputer, expanding to 32 sites, 3000 distributed servers, and all imaging data available in real time. Further, we present how all existing offline records from PACS and EMRs can enable privacy-preserving AI to access 2,000 TB of data annually.

This AI infrastructure, for those unfamiliar, runs inside the hospital building, right next to the sensitive data — a paradigm shift from the centralized, data-center-based AI most of us use daily. In our proposal, we outlined several applications of this infrastructure, including:

• Translating the 100+ very promising AI research applications in imaging into potential healthcare products (see appcommons.bevelcloud.ai). To proceed, all of them need access to much larger and more diverse datasets, moving from the research bench to the bedside.

• Privacy-preserving, Disease-precise AI Agents that use multimodal biomarkers to screen patients continuously and globally for approved therapeutics. With the majority of FDA-approved drugs being orphan drugs, the increased specialization of therapeutics demands greater precision in diagnostics. We are starting with 108 rare children’s diseases.

• Privacy-preserving, Trial-precise AI Agents to expedite clinical trial recruiting, particularly for specialized therapeutics. Phase 2 and 3 trials need access to much larger patient populations, which AI agents can instantly search across the initial set of 32 websites.
