Remember When We Were the Good Guys?

Remember when our foreign policy was developed by American statesmen, not the leaders of small Middle-eastern countries using dodgy intelligence to mask ulterior motives?

Remember when sneak attacks, whether by Asian militarists or Middle Eastern fanatics outraged our sense of honor and fair play? Remember Pearl Harbor? 9/11? Now we launch sneak attacks on foreign countries, even as we pretend to negotiate with them.

Remember when the Monroe Doctrine protected our neighbors from exploitation by greedy European powers? Now the “Donroe Doctrine” schemes to seize “strategic” neighboring territories like Canada, Greenland and Panama, while cozying up to domestic oligarchs and neighboring strongmen to exploit the hemisphere’s resources for personal enrichment.

Remember when suspects attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into America by sea were captured by the U.S. Coast Guard and turned over to domestic law enforcement for prosecution to determine their guilt or innocence? Now, small craft deemed suspect by our president are simply blown out of the water without due process for the occupants. See my article, War Crimes, published Dec. 5, 2025 for further discussion.

Remember when America showed the world how to balance free market capitalism with a generous yet common sense social safety net? Now we slash benefits to fund mass deportations and suspiciously imperialist military adventures.

Remember when America’s military power was balanced by the “soft power” of peaceful diplomatic initiatives and foreign aid? The University of Minnesota estimates that in the past year, some 762,000 people worldwide have died from disease and starvation due to our elimination of USAID funding.

Remember when we welcomed immigrants, when we were proud to invite the world to, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”? Now we deny asylum to anyone but white Afrikaners, convicted drug-trafficking Honduran presidents and displaced Hungarian despots.

Remember when America was great, before empty slogans replaced virtuous deeds? Remember, we can change this.
