Many islands, often called oceanic islands, are the visible peaks of massive underwater mountain ranges formed by volcanic activity or tectonic plate movement.
Continental Islands: These aren’t mountains rising from the deep sea, but rather landmasses that used to be connected to the mainland. As sea levels rose over thousands of years, water flooded the lower areas, leaving the higher elevations surrounded by water (e.g., Great Britain or Japan).
Coral Islands (Atolls): These begin as coral reefs that grow around a volcanic island. Over time, the volcano sinks entirely beneath the ocean, leaving behind a ring-like barrier of coral and sand enclosing a shallow lagoon.
Barrier Islands: These are long, narrow deposits of sand and sediment built up by ocean waves and currents parallel to the coast. They act as buffers for the mainland rather than solid rock peaks.

Fairyflies are tiny parasitic wasps, and they are the smallest living creatures in the world that have eyes.
They measure between 0.14 mm and 0.20 mm long (about 1/128 of an inch, which is roughly the width of two hairs placed side-by-side). This makes them smaller than many single-celled organisms.
Even though their eyes are microscopic, female fairyflies have fully working compound eyes.
They have 5 eyes in total - 3 on top, and 2 on the sides of their little heads.

In 2001, New York surgeon Dr. Richard Batista donated a kidney to his estranged wife, Dawnell, successfully saving her life after two prior transplants had failed.
When their marriage later fell apart and divorce proceedings began in 2005, Dr. Batista demanded either the return of the organ or $1.5 million in financial compensation.
The court dismissed his claim. A judge in Nassau County, New York, ruled that once a human organ is donated, it is legally considered a permanent, unconditional gift. Additionally, federal laws prohibit the sale or exchange of human organs, meaning the kidney could not be classified as marital property or be assigned a monetary value. Good Judge!

Samantha Smith, an 11-year-old American girl who wrote to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov asking why the USSR wanted to wage nuclear war, was invited to the Soviet Union and became an international celebrity and symbol of US - Soviet peace during the Cold War.
She died in a plane crash at age 13, in 1985, while returning home from filming a television show in London. The small commuter aircraft crashed in heavy rain just short of the runway in Auburn, Maine, killing all 8 on board.
The crash investigation showed no credible evidence of a bomb, sabotage, or mechanical tampering was ever discovered. Historians and aviation experts universally accept these finding of an accidental crash, but the political tension of 1985 ensured her death became a flashpoint for geopolitical suspicion.
