Tucker Bryant decided Silicon Valley might be leaning a little too hard on AI.
So he tried something different. He replaced the artificial intelligence with... himself.
His project, called “Artisanal Intelligence,” started as a joke about our growing habit of asking AI for just about everything. Bryant was inspired by research suggesting that relying too much on AI can lead to “cognitive surrender,” which is a fancy way of saying we stop thinking for ourselves.
His answer was ChatTJB, a chatbot powered by one actual human.
Instead of instant, polished AI answers, people might get a strange joke, a hand-drawn sketch, a haiku, or some other completely unpredictable response. Ask a tax question and you may not get tax advice. You might get poetry.
Bryant spent about $6,000 on a San Francisco billboard to promote the idea. Within days, it took off online. What started with a dozen or so questions quickly grew into thousands each day.
Then something unexpected happened.
People stopped treating it like a joke and began asking Bryant for real personal advice. Some were looking for encouragement or simply wanted someone to listen. Bryant found himself becoming part comedian, part advice columnist, and part friendly stranger on the internet.
The project has become big enough that he now has to think about moderation and possibly charging for the service.
But the joke still makes a good point.
AI can be fast, smart, and incredibly useful. But humans are messy, funny, unpredictable and sometimes inconvenient.
And maybe that is exactly what makes talking to another human worth something.

Three brothers age 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together.
One night the 96 year old fills up the bath, puts his foot in and pauses. He yells down the stairs, “Was I getting in or out of the bath?”
The 94 year old yells back, “I don’t know, I’ll come up and see.” He starts up the stairs and pauses, then he yells,

In 2022, scientists discovered a female three-spot swimming crab off the coast of Japan, that had been trapped inside a discarded Shaoxing cooking wine bottle for at least one or two months.
It appears the crab entered the bottle as a juvenile and grew too large to escape, yet managed to survive by consuming algae and juvenile fish that wandered into its plastic confinement. This “crustacean Odysseus,” as the researchers described her, serves as a poignant warning about the lasting impact of human pollution on marine wildlife, highlighting how persistent, narrow-necked plastic debris can create accidental traps for various organisms.
The scientists did release the crab, but it was unfortunately short-lived; she was promptly dissected afterward so the researchers could reconstruct her journey and analyze her stomach contents.
