Because I’m too busy even if I had the resources to properly do a marketing campaign and round of press to push the new tour, I’m left with my meager little substack, really, because it is the only place where one can deliver any message with a sliver of substance it seems, to deliver a message. The message will also speak to some complaints or whatever we’ve received.

And before I begin addressing things, let me say I am in excellent care and taking my lithium, am working with a stunningly good crew and the best iteration of Passion Pit as a band in the band’s history—full stop. We all laugh and have fun the entire time. It’s a pleasure—it was, and all my former bandmates and I would laugh about this, so far from a pleasure after 2013 or so. Just blegh.

  1. We played Texas (ACL ‘25, SXSW ‘26) about as many nights in number as I did for the whole of 2024—and I did a whole tour in 2024 (sadly, couldn’t afford to play Texas and the data would have suggested it was a roll of the dice). Give or take.

  2. We are going to be touring a lot.

    1. Just because I once claimed, in earnest at that time, that I needed to tour to afford treatment, does not mean the conditions I live with or am living in are the exact same as they were in 2018 when I made that claim.
It blows my mind, too, just how much things can change. Crazy.

    2. Just because I am manic-depressive doesn’t mean I’m still twenty-five. Please, dear lord, let us all grow up together.

    3. Of course I tour to make money. Of course I’m dramatic and annoying. But, you’re not going to believe this, I am so stoked to tour it’s crazy. I wish I were kidding because I just got married and I legitimately love my wife and our life even though my career has turned our relationship into a throuple at this point (not our preference, we like our alone time)

  3. Last I checked, I am not Kanye West nor Britney Spears. I wish them good health and luck but, for real, guys. Come on. You know exactly what I’m talking about, too. Let’s remember we’re all the same and yet completely and entirely unique individuals—at least in our minds.

  4. I have canceled very few tour dates in my time. Truly. In the last ten years, so few it’s crazy. International jaunts don’t count, they are so expensive and insane you cannot be mad at an artist for being like “dude I’m broke i just can’t” or, frankly, whatever reason. The tour dates we cancelled last year which made me so angry because I knew it would lead to all kinds of perceptions of me have been, as promised, rescheduled.

That’s a man of his word right there. That’s a dude trying to earn back your trust. Always.

  5. I am so outspoken about my life with my disorder for one reason, really: I am this far along with it, fuck it, because if it helps the people with the disorder, good. I mean the younger people who have no one to look to because it’s so rare and rarer to see people in the spotlight with it (it’s…insanely rare, and trust me, I’d prefer to not be in it).

However, and this point especially goes out to them: if I am going to cancel a tour date for my mental health, there will be no weird messaging about. I am so honest and talk so much (ask my wife, she knows my brother and my dad are the same—sometimes it’s just a personality thing guys) that I will have no problems saying “Hey guys I’m just too unwell to do this right now, I will sit this out and we’ll reschedule” — as usual.

You see, all of us only have a few shots at most, mostly just one shot, at so many things in life. But, man, you know the feeling when people keep thinking you’re twenty-five and all fucked up except you’re literally not? Let this be a lesson: people do not usually remember all the good stuff. The brain does a fantastic job of marveling over the bad.

I shared my story to help others. Let’s hopefully let it continue to help others but live separately from my career. The people who work for me and with me, my family, and my community—to say nothing of me—would sure appreciate it.

I really would. And do me a favor, please: pass this on.

Love,
M
