Much centrist and left-leaning public discourse has shifted towards endorsing porn as harmless and fun in moderation. As parents, we are encouraged to take a similarly carefree approach: while it’s true that our kids will likely be exposed to porn around their 10th birthday, it’s not a huge issue as long as they understand that porn is ‘unrealistic’. In PSHE classes (for those outside the UK: personal, social, health and economic education), teenagers are asked to explore the pros and cons of watching pornography with their well-meaning but often misguided teachers. Controversially, I’ll be telling my kids that porn is bad and they shouldn’t watch.
