Lying in bed with my three alarms (yes…three) firing off, I have two options at hand.
1) Stay all warm and cozy in my bed, letting my heavy eyelids take control, and drift back off to dreamland.
2) Let the freezing cold air stun my brain into alertness, shove my feet onto the carpet, and march my butt to the bathroom. Because once I’m up…I’m up.
I suppose this is where the whole expression “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” comes from…because some days, that bed welcomes me like a warm, happy hug that won’t just let go. And the only way to get out of its suffocating grip is to remember, I’ll get unlimited sleep when. I’m dead.
Of those two options, one is comfort and the other is discomfort.
I know that my bed is comfortable and sleep sounds heavenly. But I also know that my days are stronger and more productive; I feel better and sleep more soundly when I get myself out of bed and start my day when the alarms go off.
Give me any goal, habit, or discipline you’ve been putting off, and I will tell you what discomfort you’re avoiding.
And this isn’t out of shame. We all do it. But the moment we bring awareness to what discomfort we’re avoiding, we can better attack it and fight back.
This is for the BOLD ready to face their gaps, the tired of the same hiccups, and sick of finding themselves at the same starting line over and over again. Because at some point, awareness has to become action.
Rude. I know.
So for two weeks, we’re going to practice doing the uncomfortable thing. We’ll name what we’re avoiding. We’ll figure out whether that discomfort is a warning, a boundary, a pause, or a growth edge.
And then we’ll choose one real next step and do it before confidence has time to file a formal complaint.
That’s the heart of Do It Uncomfortable.
August 3-17, you’ll find exclusive content, completely free, right here on Substack (available only to subscribers).
It’s not going to be more spam or eyeroll-worthy cheerleading content (gross). I don’t vibe like that. It’s going to be nerdy brain chemistry, with inspired insights, actionable punch items, and after going through this, you’re going to walk away saying, “Damn. Paige was right.” “Discomfort doesn’t get to decide.”
Video, audio, pretty pictures, exclusive content, besides free coffee…what else could you possibly want 🙃
Now…I hate to break it to you, but once August turns into September, this content will be archived and only available to paid subscribers. So make sure you sign up, show up, commit to discomfort, and get ready to make BIG changes in your goals.
*If you’re already subscribed…bonus points! You’re auto-enrolled in this challenge. Please don’t leave me.
The moment our discomfort becomes center stage, we get to take back control of the steering wheel. Once we conquer discomfort, we are ready to conquer it all. Now… bad news is… you still have to choose to get out of bed. But that’s where our accountability, systems, and routines kick in. If you need that extra accountability (short of me knocking on your door at 6 am)…check out Radical Accountability, where this kind of follow-through THRIVES.
ABOUT RADICAL ACCOUNTABILITY
