Welcome to The Well-Read Week — a Sunday morning newsletter written for moms like you who love books and are trying to find the time to read them.

Good morning,

Yesterday my daughter and I had eye exams. I’m trying out contacts for the very first time! I’m tired of my glasses constantly fogging up in the humidity. If you’ve ever mucked around in a swamp in 100+ degree weather, that’s what it feels like to live in South Carolina most months of the year. I’m not sure how much longer my body can take living in a subtropical climate. Whew.

📘I finished The Name Game by Beth O’Leary before it was due back to the library yesterday! Loved it until the twist where it completely fell apart for me.

🎧Extracurricular by Rachel Lynn Solomon had good reviews, but honestly this age-gap romance between a professor and his (adult) younger student gave me the ick. I still enjoy Solomon’s writing, but this plotline missed the mark for me.

There’s nothing that overstimulates me more easily than crowds of kids and loud noises. My senses get easily overloaded when I can’t process competing noises and visually track movement. Unfortunately, a huge part of parenting is putting that aside to show up at school events for my own children. Even though it’s only the 3rd week of school, the PTO hosted a carnival this week. We roasted in the sun waiting in line for a chance to soak a teacher in the dunk tank, then headed indoors to play some more games in the AC. I’d say half of our group had a really fun time, and I got to catch up with a few friends, so I’m calling it a win.

I’m working on a new kid lit roundup that should hit your inbox next week! ICYMI, I sent out my two monthly newsletters this week:

July 2026 Reading Recap

·

Aug 4

Hello, and welcome to my July 2026 Reading Recap—a newsletter where I share the books I read and what I thought in an attempt to convince you to make more time for reading. If you’re new here, I’m a working mom to two school-aged kids, and I typically listen to audiobooks during some portion of my workday and try to read from a physical book or my Kindl…

The July Edit

·

Aug 6

If you’re a new reader, the Monthly Edit is a brain dump of everything I consumed (or consumed me) during the month. This newsletter is filled with recommendations and reflections that I hope will add value to your life.

Happy reading,
