Zamboanga City is facing a dengue outbreak, prompting city officials to declare a “War on Dengue” as cases continue to increase in different barangays.

Dengue cases continue to rise, reaching 1,609 as of August 8, 2026. According to the local government, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease remains at 12.

The latest number of dengue cases is 55 percent higher compared to the 1,036 cases logged in the same period in 2025.

A total of 50 out of the city’s 98 barangays reported recent dengue case clustering.

As part of the intensified response against dengue, the city government distributed sacks of salt to different barangays. The initiative forms part of the city’s continuing efforts to strengthen community participation and combat the spread of dengue.

Health authorities also urged residents experiencing suspected dengue symptoms to seek medical attention promptly, particularly when fever persists for more than two days or skin rashes develop, to help prevent severe complications.
