Made a Wreath (and Found My Creativity Again)

If you love anything to do with arts and crafts, you’ve come to the right place this Sunday. I debated whether to post this, mainly because it’s about a session I attended in South Yorkshire, and I thought it might feel a bit irrelevant if you’re not local. But actually, it’s not - and you’ll soon see why.

Back in September, I had the absolute pleasure of joining my friend Hayley’s wreath-making class, and honestly, it was such a joy from start to finish. I’ve always admired her creativity and her incredible eye for detail, but seeing her in her element, guiding us through each step with such passion and patience, was something truly special.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We ordered our coffees, climbed the stairs, and were greeted by a beautifully laid-out table with perfectly wrapped bunches of flowers and foliage at each table place.

Everything was top quality and thoughtfully sourced; I could instantly tell how much care had gone into every little detail. Hayley clearly takes pride in using the best materials so that everyone leaves with something they’re genuinely proud of.

I’m not really one for attending classes, but the class itself was the perfect balance of relaxed and informative. I’d also never made a wreath before, but I felt completely at ease, almost like I knew what I was doing. Hayley explained everything clearly, demonstrated techniques, and was there in a flash whenever I looked a little lost (usually when deciding which bit of greenery went where!). Of course, there was no right or wrong; every wreath was a reflection of its maker’s own style. That’s what I loved most: no two creations looked alike, yet each one was beautiful in its own way. The room was full of laughter, conversation, and that wonderful hum of creativity.

By the end of the session, I stood back and stared at my finished wreath. I could hardly believe I’d made it myself! Dare I say it looked professional? It’s now hanging proudly on my door, and I’ve already had so many lovely compliments.

Hayley’s class completely reignited my love for making things. Since then, I’ve been inspired to create more little pieces for my home and garden. It’s not even about perfection; it’s about the joy of creating. There’s something so grounding about getting stuck into a project, and I now have a list of things I want to make. These days, I find myself collecting bits of fabric, dried flowers, and twigs from walks, always with an idea forming in the back of my mind.
