Welcome to the mayhem and disorder that is Otter Shenanigans kids!
It has been a while since I’ve done one of these “regular” posts. What do I call these? Regular posts? Life updates? I dunno. The last one of these I did was back in June. In any case, here we are near the end of August and we are #175 with these. And life has been one big giant fucking mess. But there has been some good stuff too. This one might be a bit long because it’s been so long since I’ve done an update so let’s get started.
First, I went to Rebel Scum Con earlier this month. I would not have gone if it weren’t for my co-host JD paying for my ticket. He and I went last year and it was a lot of fun. For those that don’t know, Rebel Scum Con is a Star Wars fan convention that is held annually in the Dallas area. Met some cool people (some I met last year), ate some good food, got some cool memorabilia. All in all, it was a fun time.
In other good news, the White Sox are still in first place so that’s pretty cool. They are four games ahead of the Minnesota Twins.
In other news, the divorce is kind of progressing? She offered me a settlement and I accepted it so I’m just waiting on paperwork for this whole mess to be over. Hopefully soon. Once the divorce is finalized and I have the money from the settlement, I will be leaving the state of Oklahoma. I’m sure that I will provide more updates as I get them on that matter.
It has been a rough couple of weeks in general. I’m still dealing with the whole divorce thing of course but mentally and emotionally, I am over the marriage. So much in fact that I started dating. Well, I was dating one girl anyway. Unfortunately, that girl dumped me last week so that kind of sucked and pushed me further down the spiral. I have been feeling really unwanted and rejected lately. I mean, my wife of nearly 16 years decides that she wants a divorce back in April and then the first person that I try to enter a relationship with dumps me. Ugh. I’m still in therapy by the way.
I started writing some poetry. Not too far a stretch really from writing song lyrics which I am pretty familiar with. I have a couple of pieces. Here they are:
One Last Time
If I could touch you one last time - you would feel like home.
If I could taste your lips one last time - you would taste like heaven.
If I could see you one last time - I could get drunk in your mesmerizing eyes.
If I could hear your voice one last time - your melody would fill my ears and linger long after the sound was gone.
If I could see your smile one last time - its warmth would give me a quiet joy, the kind that stays with you even after the moment has passed.
If I could hold you one last time - I would memorize the feeling so that in my mind I could never let go.
If I could talk to you one last time - I would tell you everything that I was too afraid to say.
If I could have you one last time….
I wouldn’t ask for tomorrow. I wouldn’t ask you to stay. I would simply be grateful for that one last moment.
That last touch. That last kiss. That last look. That last song. That last smile.
One last time before I have to learn to live without you.
Unwanted
I thought I was wanted. I thought I was worth keeping. I thought what we shared was a new beginning.
I didn’t know I was standing in someone else’s shadow. I didn’t know your heart was somewhere else while your words were pointed toward me.
I gave you pieces of myself not knowing that those pieces would be tossed away.
I thought I was a connection but I was only a temporary distraction.
I thought I meant something but I was borrowed.
I wanted it to mean more than it did but the truth became something I could no longer ignore.
Where I thought there was brightness and comfort I found only pain and sorrow.
Where I thought I was wanted I was used and ultimately unwanted.
I was not wanted. I was not chosen. It was not real. It was only a chapter.
Someday, I hope to meet someone who doesn’t reach for me as an afterthought.
Someday, I hope to be something more than a remedy. Not just a temporary place to rest a wounded heart.
Someday, I hope to someone simply chooses me - just me - because they want me there.
But it was not you. And it was not now.
Perhaps that day will never come. Perhaps I will always carry the memory of what it felt like to be almost enough. Perhaps one day, I will no longer be unwanted.
ON THE RECORD
I wrote up another Needle Drop Friday last week. You can view it here.
I also wrote an album review of the new Phoebe Bridgers album Lost Weekend. I don’t write many album reviews these days but this album hit me pretty hard so I had to. You can read that album review here.
The six month mark of 2026 has come and gone and I didn’t post a mid-year favorites list so I guess I can do that now. Here are my 5 favorite albums that were released between January and June of 2026. I think I have them listed in chronological order by date of release….
Enemy - KMFDM
The Beast Goes On - Starbenders
Cold War - The Flatliners
Born to Kill - Social Distortion
Probable Claws - Sincere Engineer
To finish up this music segment, here are my top XXX most listened to artists for the month of August so far. Not really too surprising.
Bad Religion
Phoebe Bridgers
The Menzingers
My Chemical Romance
Social Distortion
SCREEN TIME
Here are the films that I’ve gone to the theater to watch since the last time I did one of these. Interesting enough, I have seen each of these twice.
OFF THE SHELF
I am still REALLY behind on my comic book reading but I’m going to try and get caught up. The first thing I am planning to read, however, is actually a re-read. I’m going to re-read Volume One of Dan Slott’s Superior Spider-Man run. There is a plan to record an episode of Comic Shenanigans with Spencer about this soon. After I’m done with that re-read, I have a bunch of single issue stuff that I need to get caught up on.
POD UPDATE
JD and I did not do a live stream this past week. I have been dealing with my issues and needed to take a week off. Last week, however, we did a live stream where we talked about our Rebel Scum Con experience.
Also on the Rebel Nerd Radio YouTube channel, I recently recorded a reaction video for the newest Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
Dave, JD, and I also finally got around to recording a new episode of Kryptonian Chronicles. We did a review of the Supergirl movie. Right now, it is still only available to patrons but eventually, I will get it put up on our YouTube channel. If you want to watch is not, you could always consider becoming a patron. It IS only $2/month.
You can watch it on Patreon here (and sign up to be a patron).
In other podcast updates, the guys from Let’s Play Ten put out a new episode on August 13th. I haven’t gotten around to listening to it yet but maybe I’ll do that later today. I am really behind on my podcast listening too.
To close things out, here is a TRACK OF THE WEEK for you. This one is by the band Starbenders. They released a new single last week. It is a cover of the Smashing Pumpkins song “Tonight, Tonight.” Enjoy!
And that is it for now kids. If you want to donate you can send me money on my Kofi. You can also donate to the ongoing divorce expenses.
If you want to keep updated with daily stuff I ramble on about, check out my socials: Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. I have TikTok too but that platform is weird so I don’t get on there much. I also have Snapchat but that platform is even stranger than TikTok. If you feel like you want to follow me over there, just send me a message on my other socials and I can give you the links.
Until then, see you next time.
