No matter how far you go down the rabbit hole, you can never find the bottom. That is because life has a magical quality that is everywhere and in everything and is so ubiquitous that it becomes invisible and forgotten. Science can and has discovered many of the mechanisms of how things work, but they never can get to the bottom of anything. There is always another level, another tiny element to discover, because probably, the mystery is infinite. Which means we should never get bored, which I almost never do.
Children are not jaded and can be amazed by a worm. Adults tend to lose that. Children love to skip, adults tend to not skip. It is like a plant hardening off over time. If you cut the parts off of a pitahaya plant, you need to wait a week or so for the end to harden off before you can plant it in the soil. Time seems to harden us off and we lose the openness and sensitivity that a child has, to see the magic in the world.
This gives us a more pedantic and mundane innerface with existence and we miss the glory of being alive, sadly. It seems it is the job of the artist to remind us of this. The artist must present something in such a spectacular manner that we are in awe and we open. Can you imagine walking onto the stage in front of an audience of children and opening your hand, and in it is a worm? And everyone would applaud and gasp. Wow, it wriggles! Great show, loved every minute of it, there was this worm, and it wriggled.
Adults are more difficult to entertain. They are hardened off, It is easier for them to be odd than awed, and the great present (referring to the ever present present being a present), which is the gift of our lives which may never be experienced to its fullest extent and the glory within it never truly felt, appreciated, or realized, which is tragic, a sad waste, an unimaginable loss.
If you can tickle their brain and make them explode in uncontrollable laughter, one can participate together in the magic, because to laugh is magical. We seem to be the only animal that laughs. Can you imagine if people never laughed? Obviously the world would be a much sadder place.
Sometimes it takes a jolt to reawaken us to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, something that hits us hard enough for a transformation to occur, to break through the trance-like humdrum malaise of everyday existence and see all the love and the magic that is within and without. It is the clouds, their beautiful shapes and colors, how can they hold so much water which is heavy and be so light? the sky forever changing, so wonderful to breathe, the moon, it adds so much to our nighttime experience, the mountains, their monumental majesty, rainbows, smiles and tears, the soil, all the plants in the world can grow from it, and the plants not only nourish us, but they can heal us. Flowers are so delightful and many smell sooo good, the miniscule and the mighty, and somewhere in between we can bask in the glory of just being ourselves.
I want to cry a river of tears of gratitude (imagine that that is what rivers are, the tears of all of our ancestors). The dualistic nature of our world, how we must have contrast to be able to delineate and discern. Without bad there could be no good, tension and release, which makes for infinite possibilities; the possibility to open our hearts and to give more and more generous heartedly, to follow our passions, and live our dreams.
Perhaps the greatest oxymoron of all time: "Nothing could not exist without something." my quote.
Just like the saying: " Happiness is not the goal, it is the way", it is not so much that one needs a magical life to be grateful, it is more like, the more gratitude one feels, the more magical the life. Because the magic is here, there, and everywhere, and any child can feel it without giving it a name or a thought. The feelings are joy and awe like when one looks up and sees so many stars. It is not just the stars that seem magical, it is that we can feel joy and awe just by seeing them, and that we can see something so far away, that is so magical. That we can see and understand what it is that we are looking at, instant by instant is so amazing.
And finally, our consciousness. Our brains seem to make consciousness possible, but possible for whom? What escapes science, is that the consciousness that our brains create needs to go somewhere to someone. That someone is our divine essence.
