With the release of version 3, OrbitDB is now feature-complete. Therefore, we are now focussed on building new tools and functionality for OrbitDB and are encouraging 3rd party developers to embrace local-first, peer-to-peer data storage for the web applications.
Our roadmap includes a number of new and exciting projects including:
- A User interface to management OrbitDB databases,
- A Golang implementation of OrbitDB,
- Version 1 of Voyager, our replication service,
- Better mobile support.
Don't forget, version 3 introduces modular encryption to OrbitDB databases. You can try out encryption using our Simple Encryption module.
If you are interested in extending OrbitDB's encryption capabilities, writing a plugin is easy. Check out the Custom Encryption documentation.

OrbitDB is an open-source project, built, maintained and supported by a core team of developers who are also community members. We aren't financed by big investors and we don't have a cryptocurrency token. Instead, we rely on the contributions of donors to keep this project moving ahead.
We have big plans for OrbitDB, especially with the next release, but we cannot make these happen without funding. We welcome cryptocurrency donations via our various public addresses.
