A 1-story single family dwelling is built in 1910 at 427 Pier Ave near 4th St.

1904, retired Chicago businessman, M.H. Wagar, moves to Ocean Park and buys several lots1 on 4th St between Ashland and Pier Ave,2 including 427 Pier Ave.3

427 Pier Ave - Location

In 1910, Wagar builds a $1,800 6-room rental cottage at 427 Pier Ave.4 The 1-story Craftsman-style house has a steep-pitched gable roof with extended eaves with exposed rafters. A central dormer is featured on the front elevation. The exterior is clad with wood lap siding. The deep, full-width front porch is supported on tapered columns. There is a central brick chimney.

Cherry St, a tree-named street established with the Santa Fe Tract of 1887, is renamed Pier Ave in 1921.

The 40-ft by 150-ft 427 Pier Ave property is Lot 12 plus half of the vacated rear alley of Vawters Orchard Tract of 1904.
