I changed the name to Whatever This Is as that is how it comes out when I think about it.
Thanks to everyone who listened to the first one-it was a lot more than I expected.
On this episode I play some new songs from this week and next weeks releases and go through my trip to New Orleans with some stories of meeting and hearing some musicians and play some songs from them

Playing With Fire kicks off Thursday with a FREE show at Slowdown. Tonight you will see the energetic blues rock band from Scotland, King King. King King has toured with both blues legend John Mayall and rock bands Thunder and Europe (Final Countdown!), so you know they are going to cover some wide ground tonight. There will be kilts.
Also on the lineup is Will Wilde, who I met this afternoon at Homer’s as he and the band bought some albums. Wilde is a blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter from England. He is the 2026 Instrumentalist of the Year at the UK Blues Awards. His latest album is Blues Is Still Alive and features a favorite of our area, Walter Trout. A couple weeks after Will’s Playing With Fire show he will be slumming it opening up for some guys named Eric Clapton and Ronnie Wood in the UK.
Also on the lineup are the Pocket Architects, who are the Nebraska Blues Challenge winners for 2025.
MONSTER bassist Mohini Dey will kick off NOMA Fest 5 with a ticketed performance at North Omaha Music and Arts. The performer from Kolkata, West Bengal, India has worked with legendary cats like Steve Vai, Greg Howe, Dennis Chambers and Dream Theater, but also current artists such as WILLOW, who appears on her new album The Dey Way. This show happens on Thursday evening.
Popular blues artist Mike Zito is making another run through Nebraska this week. Zito was a member of the Royal Southern Brotherhood, along with Cyril Neville and Devon Allman. He is a member of the Blood Brothers with Albert Castiglia. He has number one blues albums, has recorded with everyone from Tracii Guns to Joe Bonamassa, and is touring on his latest album, Outside Or The Eastside.
He is at The Waiting Room on Thursday. The start time of the Thursday show got bumped up to 9PM as the Playing With Fire event is happening at Slowdown, and they are hoping Omaha blues fans will make a whole night of it. If you pre‑order tickets you will get a free copy of his new CD as well. Check his Facebook page for details.
Theatrical Los Angeles alt. rock band The Toxhards are going to Reverb Lounge on Thursday in support of their debut album Your Neighborhood. They will be joined by digital-meets-analog side project of musician and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Barnett who goes by Lakeside Effects.
Braxton Cook is next up at the FREE Jazz on the Green series at Turner Park. Cook is a saxophonist who has played with Christian Scott, Jon Batiste, Butcher Brown and more. Cook released Not Everyone Can Go in 2025. This show happens on Thursday.
Foreigner is celebrating 50 years, and you know that a Nebraska stop was going to happen. It will happen on Thursday at Pinewood Bowl Theater.
CJ Solar is a county rocker who has written for Jason Aldean, Jerrod Niemann, Justin Moore and more. He has opened for Skynyrd, Hank Jr., Chris Janson and others. You can catch him at Bucks Bar and Grill on Thursday evening with Rick Huckaby and Dan Olsen.
