It is mid-June, a fact which I think if I type enough times I will maybe start to believe. I started this year in full-blown book promotion mode, publishing Little One in February, then going on tour well into March. Since then, I’ve been furiously working on Book 3. Two weeks ago, I typed ‘the end’ on that draft (though it’s really only the beginning in some ways), sent it to my editor, then promptly flew to Ireland. At some point in between all of this, my husband and I demolished our kitchen and found some fun treasures along the way (more on that in a bit). Six months into 2026, I feel good, but also like I’ve been going non-stop for six months straight.
Something I like about the book-writing process is that, eventually, it requires breaks. I’m sure there are some people who keep on working at the same project even when they send it off to a friend or an agent or an editor for feedback, but I can’t. Once it’s in someone else’s hands, the ‘creation’ part of my brain pauses, or at the very least has to turn toward something else. As always, I’m nervous to get feedback on my pages, but I’m also excited to use this time to reset and look forward. I bought three books today to serve as research for Book 4, and I have a meeting on my schedule to discuss my idea(s) with my agent next week. Maybe I’ll even start writing something…
As we sink into summer, I’m also grateful to have a small break to appreciate the longer days and gorgeous weather, and to relax a little bit. I hope it means I can also generate some fun newsletter content.
Anyway, here’s a look at life lately (settle in for a lot of photos of Ireland and kitchen stuff)…
