What this article doesn’t discuss is the retention issue. Why would a person want to endure the stress, terrible schedule, and ridicule from the media/gov only to lose buying power every year?
We have had controllers transferring to Australia for a better quality of life. People are quitting. We’ve lost double digits to suicide in the last 2 years. Very few are staying until max retirement age anymore. People get their 20 or 25 and peace out.
We don’t have a hiring problem and quite frankly we don’t have a training problem. We have a retention issue. Until that gets fixed with better pay, nothing else will matter and you will keep seeing short-staffed facilities.
