Among this week’s “breaking news” was the report that the former Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, has a husband (even if in name only) with a sexual fetish. It was yet one more story to add to the “nothing-surprises-me-anymore” list.

If you haven’t read the reports and seen the pictures of Bryon Noem, don’t. To describe as succinctly as I can (to limit even mental pictures), the dude reportedly wore “chest prosthetics to mimic oversized assets while interacting with influencers in the ‘bimbofication’ fetish community.” The Daily Mail reported that Bryon transferred his online fetish friends at least $25,000 via Cash App and PayPal.

Don’t Judge

A few years back, the term, “Don’t judge,” was a thing, and to my surprise a friend said that to me during a discussion in that time period (about a topic I don’t recall). I do write commentary, so judgment does come in. And to this particular story, I judge Bryon’s proclivities very weird and creepy. Yes. I’m judging!

The sad public reveal of Bryon Noem reminded me of a similar story about a man with "chest prosthetics to mimic oversized assets” that Greg Gutfeld on his FOX show was fascinated with for a while. During the height of DEI madness, a male Canadian high school teacher wore a size-Z chest prosthetic to the shop class he taught. Read more about the World War Z dude who calls himself Kayla Lemieux here.

Weird dudes like Bryon Noem and Kayla Lemieux are enabled by a giant sex toys market. A report from Global Market Insights Inc. indicates that the global sex toys market totaled $46 billion in 2025.

Projections indicate the market growing to $49.1 billion in 2026 and more than doubling by 2035 to $102 billion. The Global Market Insights report summarized: “This steady growth is driven by the increasing spending capacity, changing perception of customers and increasing awareness about sexual wellbeing.”

‘Whore’ Dog Collar & Bunny Ears for Humans at Love Store, OKC

A Sweet Valentine’s Day Pop-Up Shop?

In 2025 — maybe the end of 2024 too — I started noticing “Love Store” signage on a major Oklahoma City street, as well as a Love Store billboard on another major street.

What’s that? I wondered, thinking it was probably a pop-up store for Valentine’s Day, and I should check it out. It wasn’t a pop-up store, I realized, as it endured past Valentine’s Day. I finally popped in one day this year to see what it was selling, assuming by this time that it was a sex toy shop.

When I first lived in the area to attend the University of Oklahoma, there was a store, Christie’s Toy Box, that we’d make fun of and snicker at. It was no place my friends and I visited, as we knew it was a store of kinky things! A no-go place. Ha! I don’t recall specifics, but it was probably a small store in a discreet location, and maybe there were multiple locations.

Christie’s Toy Box still exists, as I found in my online research for this post. It appears to be part of that thriving $49 billion sex toy business, with 16 locations now in Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas. According to the website, the first Chistie’s Toy Box store opened in 1979 in Norman (that would have been my third year at OU), and the store was “one of the first adult toy stores of its kind.” Christie’s Toy Box was “at the forefront of breaking through the typical ‘adult bookstore’ stereotype and making adult businesses more acceptable to women and couples.”

Christie’s notes that their business model has been the one followed by other similar businesses. So it seems to be for The Love Store, a very large, well-lit, professionally built-out and merchandised store — my observations from the 10-minute recon trip of the OKC store, taking pictures — I asked for permission to do so and received an enthusiastic “of course.”

Here’s a look at some of what a modern-day sex toy store has to offer (The Love Store, OKC):

So, could Mr. Noem find a Z-size chest prosthetic at one of these stores?

According to AI, “The Love Store does not explicitly mention carrying size Z chest prosthetics, but it is mentioned in a related context. The Dress Tech breast form store offers a variety of breast forms, including those for crossdressers and transgender individuals, which may include size Z options.”

The Internet! Find whatever you need!

I wonder where Bryon kept his toys, so Kristi didn’t see them?

B-52s Perform Love Shack (released 1989)

Okay, maybe there is no such thing as “simpler times.” The original guitarist and founding member of the B-52s, Ricky Wilson, remembered for his innovative guitar style and contributions to the band's unique sound, died of complications from AIDS at only age 32 in 1985.

Ricky Wilson, RIP
