A CityJS Singapore talk on overlay infrastructure, Module Federation, and decoupling artifacts from fixed machines.

This talk explores a simple idea: “serverless” did not remove servers, it mostly hid where artifacts land. Building on lessons from Module Federation and Zephyr, I argue for overlay infrastructure where services are not pinned to fixed nodes and can materialize exactly where they are needed.

I cover single-node and multi-node overlays, decoupling the filesystem from computation, and what becomes possible when CI can stream work into any environment instead of targeting one predefined place.

The goal is less orchestration, fewer hard infrastructure boundaries, and a path toward intent-driven systems.
