Burgas Airport says it is ready to handle increased passenger traffic expected around Eurovision 2027, with thousands of visitors from Bulgaria and abroad anticipated to travel to the city for the competition.

The airport has already begun discussions with airlines about next summer's flight schedules, although it is still too early to estimate how many additional passengers Eurovision will bring.

Burgas Airport Director Vasil Atanasov said the facility has undergone infrastructure upgrades in recent years and has extensive experience handling heavy seasonal traffic. He said the airport would be prepared even if the competition were being held immediately.

"Two days ago we had a meeting with the mayors of the Black Sea municipalities, the idea being to introduce them to the infrastructure upgrades that have taken place at Burgas Airport in recent years and, in the context of Eurovision, to firmly state our readiness to welcome the traffic," Atanasov said.

"The message being and still being is that even if the contest were to take place tomorrow, we are ready," he added.

Atanasov said there is currently not enough information to make reliable forecasts about the airport's workload. Airlines are only at an early stage of planning their schedules for 2027, meaning the number of additional flights and passengers will become clearer in the coming months.

"It is too early to make any predictions about traffic. It is important to note that airlines are in the extremely early stages of planning their flight schedule for next year," he said.

At the same time, Atanasov stressed that Burgas Airport has dealt with comparable passenger flows in previous years and is accustomed to managing significant increases during the summer season.

More than 90% of the airport's annual passenger traffic is concentrated during the active summer tourist season. Additional personnel and resources are traditionally deployed during this period to handle the increased demand.

Talks with airlines are already underway with the aim of ensuring sufficient air connections to Burgas around the Eurovision event. The airport is also open to the possibility of new routes being introduced.

"We are already actively talking with all airlines. It is too early to give any predictions about traffic, but in any case, when we have this information, it will be uploaded to our website, of course shared with the general public," Atanasov said.

He expects greater clarity about available routes and travel options within the next few months. The information will be announced once airline planning becomes more concrete.

"I believe that in the next few months there will be clarity in any case. And when, accordingly, we announce the information, all those wishing to visit Burgas around Eurovision, and why not after, are welcome," Atanasov said.
