The Inaugural Youth Authors Week

Whether you’re a young person looking for your new favorite read, a teacher looking for new ways to get your students excited about creative writing, or someone who prioritizes diverse voices on their TBR (if you know, you know), we’re calling for participants to read at least one piece of youth writing during the last week of March.

Inspired by the impact of our friends at Banned Books Week in shining a light on the surge of book challenges in libraries, bookstores, and schools, we’re relaunching our newsletter and social media as Youth Authors Week by Novelly, a campaign celebrating the contributions of young people to literature, not just at Novelly but more broadly.

The problem has never been a lack of talent, but a lack of a spotlight.

We’ve noticed for a long that inspiring youth writing is being published online every day, but can struggle to get into the hands of readers. Youth authors, both at Novelly and in other corners of the internet, have moved us in countless ways and we know their stories can move other readers, if given the opportunity.

Reading diversely matters, including across generation.

Reading youth writing helps us discover the world through a new generation of writers, promoting intergenerational understanding and inspiring creativity no matter what age you are. We know reading diversely makes us better humans, and we’re calling for an inclusion of “generation” in that conversation.

During the inaugural Youth Authors Week from March 24 to 30, we’ll be featuring one piece of youth writing every day on this newsletter, not just from our catalog, but from other youth publishers, youth-run literary magazines, and young people themselves.
