“The Only Constant in Life is Change” - we’ve all heard this quote by Heraclitus throughout our lives. It’s often meant to bring solace or understanding to a complicated world that doesn’t stand still. Nothing brings more weight to this saying than experiencing a death and losing someone close to us. Last week I lost a close family friend suddenly and it reminds me again of how fleeting our time is here. What we leave behind is our essence and imprint on this world. All the things we hold tightly to are immediately released from our clutch.
Since my last post there have been many changes with my business. I have officially launched Nova Terra and you are all welcome to visit my new site and send me a message at hello@novaterrausa.com. This is my way of letting the world know I want to play with more kinds of dirt and offer EcoBlox in new regions.
Also, with regards to change, one of my mentors sent me this YouTube video that gives a thoughtful perspective about why the USA builds wood-framed homes. Even though it is documented that structural masonry outperforms wood-framed homes all day long from natural disasters, we still continue to build this way. Part of me is hesitant to share this because it seems to make a fairly strong case that the economics just make sense. However, when I shared this with one my peers, his reaction was this self gut punch, like “ouch this hurts me as a human being”. So, I felt inspired to point out this disposable type of behavior, and sadly the economics support this behavior. For instance, somehow it makes more sense to make a fork and spoon out of plastic, ship it halfway around the world, use it once, and throw it away vs. just using and washing the ones we have.

My friend Brad was someone who cared about the world and the people in it – it was part of his DNA to leave behind a positive imprint. Our world is indeed changing, and I believe it is inviting us to be part of the change. What will we be leaving behind?
