GCSE results day at Pilton Community College saw some particularly high achievers but also sterling work from young people who have overcome challenges to achieve beyond their expectations…

Students at Pilton Community College have been praised for not only achieving in their GCSEs, but beating their targets and in some cases overcoming great challenges to get there.

The college said pupils had gained excellent results across a wide range of subjects, many surpassing ambitious grade targets set for them at the start of their GCSE course.

Particularly high achievers included Lola, who gained an impressive eight grade 9s – the highest possible grade - and one grade 8, while Heidi achieved an exceptional six grade 9s and two 8s.

Other outstanding performances included Rio with six grade 9s and three grade 8s, Sameeha with four grade 9s and four grade 8s, and Chloe with four grade 9s and four grade 8s.

The college also wished to congratulate a number of other high-achieving students, including Martin, Jemma and Lara, who achieved excellent results across their subjects.

Plus it praised Shye, Charley, Matthew, Henry, Archie, Gracie, Lenny, Harry and Caitlin who all greatly surpassed their target grades “through sustained hard work, excellent attendance, engagement with revision opportunities and a determination to succeed.”

Headteacher Danny Heaton said: “While we are incredibly proud of our highest attaining students, some of the most inspiring stories are those of young people who have exceeded expectations through sheer determination and resilience.

“These students embraced every opportunity available to them, attended additional revision sessions, worked hard in their lessons and never gave up on themselves. Their success is thoroughly deserved.”

The college is also celebrating the achievements of students whose journeys through secondary school have involved overcoming significant personal, social, emotional or educational challenges.

Deputy Headteacher Simon Robilliard said: “We are particularly proud of those students whose achievements today represent much more than GCSE results alone. Throughout their time with us, they have overcome challenges that could easily have stood in the way of success.

“At Pilton, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, feel valued and leave school ready for the next stage of their lives.

“Today is about confidence, resilience and self-belief. It is about young people proving to themselves what they can achieve and moving forward with real choices and opportunities ahead of them. Seeing those students progress to further education, training and employment is something we are immensely proud of.”

Mr Heaton added: “These results reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of parents and carers throughout the GCSE journey.

“We are proud of every student and look forward to seeing them continue to grow, succeed and become the best version of themselves as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”
