Atlantic Academy near Bideford has recorded its best ever GCSE results

Atlantic Academy has announced its best ever GCSE results as the relatively new school continues to break its own records.

The class of 2026 set a new school benchmark with an Attainment 8 score of 49.1 and 70 per cent of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, while 61 per cent secured a strong pass at grade 5 and above.

Individual student accomplishments included Maisie Hutter who secured five top grade 9s, two grade 8s and a grade 4. Thomas Freeman was awarded two grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7 plus a Distinction*. Ash Orchard earned one grade 9, three grade 8s, three grade 7s and a Distinction*.

Alongside the academic curriculum, Atlantic Academy students have participated in beach cleans at Bucks Mills, art workshops in St Ives and visits to the theatre.

Dr Claire Ankers, who is principal at Bideford College and Atlantic Academy, said: “Today is all about celebrating our students and everything they have achieved. We are immensely proud of the dedication they have shown throughout their GCSE studies and it is wonderful to share in the excitement as they receive the results of their hard work.

“These achievements reflect not only the commitment of our young people, but also the steadfast support of our staff and families.

“Whether moving on to sixth form, college, an apprenticeship, or employment, our students leave us with the confidence and skills to succeed. We wish every one of them the very best as they begin this exciting next chapter.”
