Hello there! I'm Nicole, also known as the "Nomadic Activist" 🌎💪🏼
I’m a Digital Nomad, Traveling Petsitter, and Progressive Activist from the US.
Over the past two years, I’ve been traveling the world while working remotely with free housing in exchange for providing pet care. (As a Gen Z drowning in student loan debt, I NEVER thought I’d ever afford this kind of travel. Thank goodness for TrustedHousesitters!)
Throughout my travels, I struggled to find resources connecting nomadic travelers with advocacy efforts and progressive causes while on the move. This was surprising, considering there are an estimated 17 million digital nomads, many of whom lean progressive. To fill this gap, I created Nomadic Activist.
Nomadic Activist was born out of a need to bridge the worlds of progressive activism and digital nomadism, providing resources, inspiration, and opportunities for action and empowering individuals to create meaningful change, no matter where they roam.
What started as me creating social media content to share my nomadic experiences and mobilize travelers to make a difference has now evolved into the world's first organization dedicated to mobilizing remote workers and digital nomads in the advocacy space. While my short-term goal is focused on the upcoming US election, my vision is to expand globally, creating a transnational community that leverages its location-independent lifestyles to advocate for social, environmental, and economic causes (as most of these issues transcend geographical borders).
Apart of this mission, I’m traveling to swing states and competitive districts across the country to volunteer for progressive candidates in high-impact races up and down the ballot, hoping to inspire other remote workers and nomads to leverage their location-independent lifestyle to travel to high-impact locations (within the US and beyond).
It all started after Roe v. Wade was overturned. I couldn't sit back and passively scroll through political content on social media anymore. I had to actually do something about it.
This turning point led me to dive headfirst into volunteering for progressive causes and candidates while living in Eastern North Carolina in 2022. There, I tirelessly knocked on doors for local candidates, mobilized voters to the polls, and organized local events ahead of the midterm election.
As a native Pennsylvanian, I was also invested in the Fetterman for US Senate Campaign around this time. Fetterman's brilliant social media-driven campaign demonstrated the power of digital content in the political sphere, especially with young voters (and my own non-political peers). Inspired by this, I began creating content focused on the North Carolina races I was involved with (since nobody else seemed to be doing so). As a result, I also became a NextGen America Social Media Organizing Leader and a Vote Save America Community Moderator, spearheading efforts in social media organizing and training others on how to harness social media to mobilize young voters to the polls.
Shortly after the 2022 Midterm Election, I realized I could take my activism on the road: When the Warnock runoff campaign needed volunteers on the ground in Georgia, I seized the opportunity. As a remote worker, I decided to bring my job to Georgia for a week, where I worked during the day and knocked on doors by night. This experience was transformative, showing me how I could blend my location-independent lifestyle with activism.
My nomadic journey officially began in January 2023, traveling the world full-time while working remotely. Inspired by my experience volunteering in Georgia, I tailored a portion of my pet-sitting travels to locations where I could make a difference. Although 2023 was an “off year” in American politics, I brought my nomadic lifestyle to Virginia Beach to volunteer for progressive candidates ahead of the pivotal Virginia legislative race in 2023, as well as supported local candidates and organizations in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
As the 2024 US elections approach, I'm committed to continuing this journey, bringing my nomadic lifestyle to support Democratic candidates in high-impact races across the US, hoping to inspire other nomads to do the same.
But this mission doesn't end with my own advocacy.
