The police discovered the body of a man in an apartment in the center of Rotterdam on Wednesday afternoon. The police suspect that the man had been killed in a crime and that he likely died a few days before his body was found.
An acquaintance of the man called the police at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday because they couldn’t reach him. Officers went to check the apartment on Botersloot and found the man dead inside.
The police cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale investigation, putting 20 detectives on the case. According to Rijnmond, officers could be seen investigating in the Statendam residential tower and its immediate vicinity.
Officers also went door-to-door asking locals if they heard or saw anything peculiar between 11:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, and 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18. The police also asked anyone with camera footage of that timeframe to submit it.
According to the police, security camera footage showed several people leaving the apartment complex on Monday night. “We would very much like to speak with them to investigate if they know anything about how this gentleman died.”
The police have released no information about the victim’s identity.
