Nihongo Picnic · Nihongo Picnic Updates

We are excited to announce our very first Zero-Beginner pilot class at Nihongo Picnic.

This class is for people who have never studied Japanese before.

Even if you cannot read hiragana or katakana yet, you are very welcome to join! We will provide romaji (alphabet support), so complete beginners can participate comfortably.

In this pilot lesson, we will focus on communication rather than reading and writing. Instead of studying characters, we want you to experience the fun of actually using Japanese from day one.

By the end of the lesson, you will be able to:

  • Say your name and where you are from

  • Ask someone their name and where they are from

  • Talk about your favorite Japanese food and drinks

  • Ask others about their favorite Japanese food and drinks

For this pilot lesson, explanations will be given in English, and you are welcome to ask questions in English as well.

Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunities to practice speaking Japanese during the lesson, so please come ready to speak lots of Japanese together!

The lesson will be taught by Akane Ueno (See her profile), who has been teaching with Nihongo Picnic since the early days of the school and has supported many beginner learners over the years.

This pilot class is designed for learners who are completely new to Japanese. To help everyone feel comfortable learning together from zero, we ask learners with prior beginner-level study experience not to join this class.

Date & Time: Wednesday, June 17, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (JST)

Format: Online (Zoom)

Level: Complete Beginner

Fee: Free

Capacity: Limited to 6 participants

Before you join:
To help everyone practice speaking together comfortably, please join the lesson with your camera and microphone turned on. Please note that this lesson will not be recorded.

Since this is our very first pilot class for complete beginners, we would love to hear your feedback after the lesson as we consider opening future classes.

We hope to see you there!
