Back in April, we held a High-Intermediate pilot class, the response was so positive that our evening class quickly became full.

Because of that, we’ve decided to open a new High-Intermediate class starting in June: Mondays 19:00 - 20:00 JST

Before the class begins, we’re holding another free pilot session for learners who are interested in joining or would simply like to experience the level first.

You can hold conversations in Japanese.
You can share your opinions.

But have you ever felt like this?

When you try to explain something, your answer becomes too long
While giving reasons, you lose track of what you wanted to say
You want to react to someone’s opinion, but can only say “なるほど”
Abstract topics suddenly feel much more difficult
You feel, “I have ideas, but I can’t organize them well in Japanese”

This is a very common “wall” many learners experience between intermediate and advanced Japanese. And when you start wanting to express your thoughts more naturally, more clearly, and more logically, that may be a sign that you are ready for the next stage.

This time, we’ll discuss a topic that has recently become controversial in Japan:

Why do some businesses intentionally limit their customers? Is this discrimination? Or simply a form of distinction?

Using Nihongo Picnic’s original article, we’ll explore these questions together through discussion.

This pilot class will use the same lesson content as the previous session in April.

This is not just a class where you read an article and share opinions.
In this lesson, we’ll practice skills that become increasingly important at the advanced level.

1. Explaining abstract ideas logically

In this lesson, we’ll think about the difference between “discrimination” and “distinction,” two key concepts connected to this topic.

Are things like women-only train cars or tattoo-free hot springs discrimination? Or are they simply a form of distinction?

We’ll practice organizing our thoughts and explaining, in our own words, why we think a certain way.

2. Developing discussions together

Advanced conversation is not only about expressing your own opinion.

For example:

“What is it like in your country?”
“Could you explain that a little more??”

We’ll practice asking questions, reacting to classmates’ ideas, and building discussions together through natural interaction.
