Hello, Mylonia!

Today I’m officially launching Mylonia, my freelance software development company. That means I’m officially going solo.

If you’ve been looking at my site recently (or perhaps looked at some of my profiles on social media) you might have noticed that I soft-launched the company without any fanfare by adding links to the website and a contact form here and there, but I figured it was time to make a big announcement now, too.

I suspect most of you will who know me from PHP Monitor: this app for macOS is actively maintained and continues to grow to this day.

But over the past few years while building and supporting PHP Monitor, I used to do agency work at a great but small software development agency in here in Belgium.

It was a good gig for a long time, but the commute was the biggest downer sometimes. After dealing with burnout last year I finally decided this summer to make a big change and start doing freelance work.

For now this is a part-time gig, limited to two days per week. But I am very excited about it, since it means I will be adopting new workflows and I’ve been very enthusiastic about setting up a new modern, self-hosted flexible foundation for my business over the last few weeks.

I intend on blogging more about that, so stay tuned for a more technical breakdown of how I’m leveraging existing open source software to run my business soon.

Now taking clients!

Now, let’s get to the point of this post. I’m now taking on client work more formally through Mylonia. My initial focus is on Belgian companies, but I am also open to international projects.

Working with me can be the right choice for small teams who need technical expertise in: Laravel backends, native iOS/macOS apps, or custom developer tooling. Great for those company where you can’t justify hiring multiple specialists.

The same principles that went into PHP Monitor and my other projects apply here, too: I will pay careful attention to quality, solve real problems, and build for the long term with maintenance in mind, while remaining pragmatic and sometimes opinionated.
