It's been over two decades since '90s star Bridget Fonda quit acting and disappeared from Hollywood in exchange for a quieter and more peaceful life away from the public eye. Her last acting project was in 2002 as the titular character in Hallmark's made-for-television film, "The Snow Queen." Since then, she's mostly retreated from the spotlight, though she hasn't completely disappeared. In August 2026, the Hollywood legend was seen with her assistant while leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles, being spotted for the first time in over eight months. She wore a white tank top and black yoga pants while accessorizing with a crossbody bag and matching shoes. She didn't seem to wear any makeup, and she had her hair in a loose, slightly messy updo.
In recent years, Fonda has occasionally been snapped popping up around Los Angeles while running errands or simply going about her day. Seen below in the left image, for instance, the former star is pictured during one of her rare outings in July 2025, looking absolutely nothing like she used to (just like these other '90s actresses). Later in November that year, she was also captured out and about around town carrying a large tote while dressed casually in a black tank top and pants, with a green button-down as her cover-up (seen below right).

Even during her prime, Fonda was admittedly quite reserved and hated being in the spotlight. "I wouldn't say I'm modest, but I'm a really shy person and I have a tendency to want to hide," she confessed to MovieMaker in 1998. "I don't like feeling exposed." As for fans, they seem to respect Fonda's wish to live life on her own terms. "She left the public eye for a reason. Leave her alone," one such admirer wrote on Instagram.

As the daughter of Peter Fonda, granddaughter of Henry Fonda, and niece of Hollywood A-lister Jane Fonda, Bridget Fonda was seemingly destined for a career in show business just as her famous predecessors had been. For a while, it looked like she was here to stay: From the '80s to the '90s, Fonda had a successful run on the big screen, appearing in such films as "The Godfather Part III," "Single White Female," "Point of No Return," and "Lake Placid."
Fonda opened up about being born into Hollywood royalty in a 2000 interview with The Guardian. "[As a third-generation Fonda], everyone expected me to be good, automatically, and I had to learn to fall on my face," Fonda acknowledged, but she refused to fold under the pressure. "I'm trying to enjoy it more as I go along, because this is actually a great job and I love doing it."
Somewhere along the way, though, Fonda decided that the Hollywood life wasn't the one she wanted. In 2003, she was involved in a horrific car accident that left her with a fractured back after losing control of the wheel while driving in Malibu. She may have recovered, but she never went back to making movies.
Fonda also settled down: In December of that year, she married film composer Danny Elfman shortly after their engagement, and they welcomed a son named Oliver in 2005. Since leaving Hollywood, Fonda has made it clear that she has no intention of returning to acting. "No, I don't think so," the former '90s star told a photographer who spotted her in L.A. back in 2023 (via the Daily Mail). She added, "It's too nice being a civilian."
